Selangor ONE 25th Anniversary Dinner

A back to back event from the Silver Jubilee Anniversary in Church on 6th October 2007 to the Silver Jubilee Gala Dinner in Mun Siang Lo restaurant the following Saturday, 13th October 2007. Attended by more than 500 people from the rangers to the leaders, parents and fellow rangers from other outpost, Mun Siang Lo restaurant becomes the highlight venue for the all rangers. Themed with the silver jubilee, the rangers came clad in their silvery costume, braving on-lookers of Klang Parade shoppers where the restaurant was held. One leader even came as Hang Perak with his silver malay traditional costume.

The dinner started with a bang… yes, literally. Ranger Samuel took the center stage once again with his role as Jesus in Carman’s ‘Satan, bite the dust’ presentation. This presentation has gone from one generation to another and yet another as new and younger rangers takes up their role to play their part in the presentation. It is understood that the likes of Cmdr. Hon Chong and Cmdr. Herbert to Cmdr. Rudy and Cmdr. Francis to Cmdr. Larry and Cmdr. Zacharias has taken part in the same presentation. And still, it doesn’t fail to rock the house and excite everyone here.

Immediately after the presentation, Cmdr. William, the Master Ceremony for the night, welcomed and thanked everyone for coming for this dinner. The organizer showed a repeat of the Selangor ONE documentary video of the journey from the very beginning to the 25th year, this year 2007. It was a wonderful work of art from our fellow leader, Cmdr. Roy Vimalan who drafted the script, recorded, directed and produced the video. Of course, he had help from Cmdr. Ivan Kok and Cmdr. Leong Su Ling. I have to say, from all the Royal Rangers video that we have come out with, this has got to be the best, thus far. A documentary so good, it can bring tears to your eyes. And we believe we will be able to produce many more professional videos that will impact and touch the lives of the children around the world. Great Job, Director Roy.
Oh yeah, if you are reading this and thinking of making a good video presentation but don’t know how to? You are more than welcome to contact our dearest Director Roy. At a minimal fee (I think…) he can provide you with professional advice and assistance. And if he likes what he hears, he might even produce and direct it for you. For security purpose (he has a lot of admirers), his numbers will not be published here but you can contact the blog administrator or see any leaders in the Royal Rangers office for assistance.

Back to the Anniversary dinner, after the documentary video, our Selangor ONE chairman Cmdr. Herbert Ong invited our Senior Pastor, Rev. Henry to give his speech. Urging the leaders to carry on their good work while keeping their eyes on God and staying focus on the prize at the finish line, Senior Pastor Henry also reminded the leaders that the race is far from over and there’s still a lot of work to be done. A special award was then presented to Ps. Henry for his support towards the Royal Rangers Ministry.

The restaurant has started serving their food and everyone was busy eating when Cmdr. Larry and Ranger Melody Teo took on the stage and soothe the moment with their melodious singing of a song, specially written for Selangor ONE Anniversary by Cmdr. Larry. The event carried on with a special presentation and appreciation to all faithful leaders who has gone the extra mile by not only serving as leaders during the Royal Rangers meeting but also as drivers who safely send back the rangers after the Royal Ranger meeting. Sometimes, these leaders will only reach back home at 5-6 o’clock in the evening. A BIG THANK YOU to your awesome leaders!

Then, all leaders from Selangor ONE was called out to the stage to receive a special commemorative 25th Anniversary bolo-tie while we invited Senior Pastor Henry to pray for all leaders. The stage was filled with a mixture of young leaders and very experienced leaders, all excited to be playing their part in this Royal Rangers Ministry.

Someone once was heard saying that they can never see themselves as a Royal Rangers Leader because they lack the training and outdoor skills like cooking over a campfire, teaching rope craft, going camping and all… Growing up from Royal Rangers, I used to think that way myself, as I admire the skillful leaders teaching me what they know. Now that I am a leader, I realize that while skills and trainings are necessary (and they are provided to all new leaders) the most important tool is spelled T-I-M-E. As long as you have some time to spare, you are more than able to be a Royal Rangers leader.

Interested in knowing more about Royal Rangers Ministry, please see or call any of our leaders or drop by the Royal Rangers office at the church foyer. We’ll be happy to explain to you and welcome you to our team.

The organizer of the Anniversary Dinner has indeed save the best show for the last. As our very own Malaysian Elvis Long took the center stage, the dance floor was opened with leaders and parents dancing to the beat of the song. The older generation took the opportunity to show their skill in dancing as Mr. Elvis Long serenade them with his songs. Free CDs was given to those who danced their best. It was indeed a wonderful moment and no one could expect a better closing to this eventful 25th Anniversary than this.

Happy 25th Anniversary, Selangor ONE.

May GOD bless Selangor ONE and the whole Royal Rangers Ministry
