Grace Advancement Camp 2010

School holiday is around the corner and this time, we are having our Grace Advancement Camp immediately at the start of your holidays...

From 5th June 2010 (Saturday) to 7th June 2010 (Monday), Selangor # 1 will be conducting their advancement camp in the Woods Resort at Ulu Yam Baru. The fee is RM 70.00 per participants and a ranger can complete a minimum of at least 3 merits just by attending and completing this camp.

What more is that with WORLD CUP around the corner, the theme for the 2nd night councilfire is "ULTIMATE FOOTBALL FAN". Top ten rangers/leaders with their most fanciest, outrageous, once people see, they will say you are one crazy fan outfit will win prizes. Plus score a few points on the knowlegde of World Cup so that when the whole world starts talking about the world cup days after the camp, you will have your part to say...

More importantly, take this opportunity to hang out with your leaders as we have fun and fellowhip as well as achievement at the same time.

2010 LMA Class

Please be informed that the Leaders Medal of Achievement (LMA) classes will begin this Saturday (17th of April 2010). The purpose of LMA is to provide you with skills and knowledge that will improve your effectiveness as a Royal Ranger Leader!

The required elements to earn the LMA are:-

Ranger Basic (8 hour module)
- This module is the foundational module that all new commanders will be encouraged to attend. Ranger Basics will provide a new commander with all the necessary information he/she needs to effectively lead boys & girls in the weekly meeting.

Discipleship 1 & 2 (3 hour each module; 6 hours total)
- This module is intended to provide commanders with in-depth training in soul winning, counseling, and discipleship issues related to ministering to boys.

Safety & the Church (3 hour module)
-This module will help commanders understand the most important safety issues when dealing with boys during outpost meetings, activities, and while transporting boys.

Successful Outpost (4 hour module)
-This module incorporates many ideas and best practices a commander can follow to create a successful outpost.

One Age Specific Activities (4 hour module)
-This module will provide group commanders ideas, skills, and safe practices to follow when working with boys outside the Outpost meeting.

First Aid-CPR from a certified provider

One Elective Module - Patrol Method (Minimum 2 hours)
-This module helps commanders better understand the Patrol Method and how they can take advantage of this outstanding boy oriented leadership style.
Overnight Camping (Exempted for those already attended NTC/RKTC)
-This training module is an overnight campout that prepares Discovery, Adventure, and Expedition commanders to take boys camping.

We will start with the Discipleship 1 & 2 followed by First Aid on a later date. Below are the details for the 1st & 2nd Module:-

Time : 3.oopm - 9.00pm

Module Fee : RM 10.00

Attire : RR T-Shirt

Others : Bible & Stationary

Please register at the Fellowhip Hall latest by 2.50pm. The class session will begin at 3.00pm sharp in order to complete full session by 9.00pm. Dinner will be provided by the Grace Rangers Council.

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.

"It`s foolish to chase wild visions."

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.

He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.

It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.

For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.

Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude that overcomes a terrible physical handicap and achieves an impossible goal.

Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realised with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are.

Even the most distant dream can be realized with determination and persistence.

Rooooooaaaaarrrrroyal Rangers !!!! How was your holidays and Chinese New Year celebration and may i add, valentines day? I hope it was all good and you all managed to spend some quality time with your loved ones and family members. Someone once asked, if he has to choose between spending time with your family members during Chinese New Year and spending time with your girlfriend on Valentines day, which falls on the 1st day of Chinese New Year, which will he choose? I posed this question to you. Which will you choose? I now most heart will go for the latter but do remember, family always comes first before your relationship. Afterall, isn't every day supposed to be a Valentines day? Why limit it to only 1 day? Oh.. oh... I now have to buy flowers everyday for my wife..

ok..ok.. back to Roooaaaroyal Rangers Chinese New Year Party... Excitement was in the air as the sea of red flooded our Grace Fellowship Hall decorated with red packets to add to the festivity mood. Every year, the rangers are encourage to wear red for our CNY party.

Of course, they will be rewarded with ehem..ehem.. red packet of course if they do come in RED, any type of red, even if you are promoting a seafood restaurant RED, we will still give you red packet. After all, it is the season of giving.

Apart from wearing red, all rangers are also encourage to make a lantern using only red packets. Here's some of their collection...

The party will not be fun without some games, right? Why not try out 1,2 jus to win the most red packets from your fellow rangers.

Then, come our patrol competition, to build a national monument/landmark using only red packet. Guess what they come out with?

This is our very own future Malaysian Statue of Liberty... =)

The party will never be complete without a time for devotion, right? Here's Pastor Mike sharing the good news to the rangers.

We had birthday celebration for leader Dexter and Agnes, while we bid goodbye to Lt. Cmdr. Leong Su Ling who has left to Australia to play with the sands.. opps, i meant to further her studies.

In the end, we had leaders distributing mandarin oranges and red packet to all rangers, wishing them a very good holiday and Gong Xi Fa Cai.

Last week he went to Klang GH to check up growth in right thigh. After MRI, was refered to KL GH. Was found that growth is Sarcoma; a slow growing one ( A cancer that begins in the muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels or other supporting tissue of the body). Right now admitted at GH KL (2A Bed 3). They have been testing his blood and found no other problems. He's waiting for a biopsy of the sarcoma for further details/results.

Let's all pray for a complete healing and for a smooth operation/biopsy process.

God’s word states “Come to ME, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take MY yoke upon you and learn from ME, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For MY yoke is easy and MY burden is light” Matthew 11:28-30

As we approached the final month of 2009, we have to look back and ponder on all the things that have happened all throughout the year and be reminded of God’s Written Word above.

God is/has and will always be sending out an INVITATION to all of us to come to Him. The very phrase “Come to Me” is an open invitation to all. You don’t have to qualify yourself, God qualifies you. Whether you are a children, student, adult or senior citizen, God is inviting you to come to Him.

And this invitation comes with a GIFT. It is not often that the host of a party gives out gifts to his/her invited guests. More than often, it only comes from a very, very generous and wealthy host. Well, we are talking about the Lord of Host here. The gift is a promise. A PROMISE of rest. The phrase “and I will give you rest” makes it quite certain that as long as you respond to His invitation, you will most likely get your gift.

Why rest? Why not other material stuff? Why not gold? Why not strength? Why rest? Well, in my opinion, rest is what all of us in this world really need right now. Most of us sleeps, some less than the required 8 hours and some more. But when we awoke, we find ourselves not having enough rest. We can sleep and sleep, and still be tired. It is because our body didn’t stop working, our mind didn’t stop thinking. We are not resting. God’s rest intends not just for our bodies but also our souls.

So are you worn out? God’s inviting you to His mansion for some peace of mind, body and soul.

MISSION TRIP 2009

Day : Saturday to Saturday
Location : SEM.O.A. Tras, Bentong, Pahang.

SEM.O.A. stands for Semenanjung Orang Asli is a charitable work to help improve the way of living for the Orang Asli people here in Malaysia. The SEMOA church in Kepong, KL is currently overseeing the work. They provide a place to stay for the Orang Asli children in the town area so that the children can go to the government school in the nearby town. If the children remain in the tribal hills, they will remain uneducated and ignorant of what's happening around the world.

All the while, they rented a house to place children but they have been asked to relocate twice by the owner citing more profitable gain to build bungalow as reason. Since then, SEMOA has been praying and God openned a door and they purchase a land of their own whereby works has begun to build a safe place for the children to stay and this time, they intend to keep it that way.

Faith has risen and from 20-30 odd children, God enlarged their vision to house 200 Orang Asli children when the project completed.

Grace Assembly Klang and Royal Rangers Selangor #1 are honoured to lend a hand and be a part of this exiting project.

Your mission if you choose to accept it...

a)Secure base for fencing work done in the land
b)Assist to complete the building of toilet and kitchen
c)Assist to complete the building of the hall & dormitory
d)Minister to the tribal village, staying there for 3 days

20 things you didn't know about Australia in Camporama 09...

1. Both Cmdr. Ivan Kok and Cmdr. Nicholas Aaron was in the running for the Mayor election prior to the camp. Just when everyone were participating a clean, good, fair and competitive election, Cmdr. Ivan Kok pulls out of the election citing personal reason. That leaves the EC no choice but to declare Cmdr. Nicholas Aaron WINNER as there were no other challenger.

2. This is the 1st Camporama where we see both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor coming from the same gender. And they seem to work well together. Their philosophy, talk little, work more.

3. Initially the cabinet was planning to build Sydney Harbour Bridge with Opera House view as the archway. The idea was shot down by the Deputy Mayor who in turn comes out with his pride & glory archway – The Boomerang Arch, or shall we say – The Best Archway in Camporama 09. It seems he woke up one night, with boomerang flying all over in his head.

4. Cmdr. David Suppramaniam did his best for the Cardboard Regatta race. In fact, he and his team built a much superior boat weeks before the camp and test it on Prima Bayu man made pond and it was successful. However, due to the effort put in on the sample boat, the REAL boat was left with fewer resources to pull through.

5. “The FAMOUS kangaroo fainting!” Who can forget? That was one of the highlight of the camp. It was said that just moments before the Kangaroo faints, a certain Cmdr. from Australia actually prophesied of the incident. And it happened! (Please note – the name of this certain Cmdr. has been kept a secret to prevent the public from harassing him for lucky 4D numbers)

6. The best moment of Camporama happened way past midnight, cutting, drawing, painting, thinking, re-drawing, re-cutting, and re-painting all the Camporama stuffs at Grace Fellowship Hall. No one complained. All see work to be done and just do it. It was tiring but fun.

7. Our Tourism Minister, Cmdr. Sherene Cheong was so so so excited about Australia, she drew the whole layout all by herself. We still have the picture to proof it.

8. Massive Fireworks were supposed to light up the sky of Australia on the 1st night, but that didn’t happen. Instead, we were entertained by some thunder clap. Enough said.

9. Our Ex Mayor Cmdr. Desmond Lim (Mayor of Taman Negara) made a cameo appearance in this Camporama 09. Only a few managed to catch a glimpse of him. He left as soon as he arrives.

10. If you didn’t know, the Australia City was divided into 4 main departments namely; the Australia Zoo led by Cmdr. Ivan Kok & Penny & team, the Surfers Paradise led by Cmdr. David Suppramaniam & team, the Aborigines & Outback led by Cmdr. Andrew Lee & team and the Museum & Info Centre led by Cmdr. Molly & team. They all did wonderfully for Selangor ONE.

11. Some may argue this statement, but it was said we won the Best City Archway because of the Christmas light lighting up the Kangaroo on the Boomerang. Ok, not some, maybe only Cmdr. Larry Chew. But seriously, you have to see it at night. It was beautiful.

12. If you didn’t know, Cmdr. Leong Su Ling was the Australian Secretary of State. She was so good with her secretarial work that she managed to compile & compress all our cabinet meetings into a few minutes.

13. It is not easy becoming Semangat team leader. You have to be slapped on your chest until it leaves a pair of red hand print and then, carry a tong wherever you go so that you can stand on it. Well, that’s the price you have to pay for the fame that comes with it.

14. Cmdr. Ivan Tan was in Australia but not in Australia. Confused? He missed all the fun, games, highlights, rallies, fellowship… He missed the whole Camporama while staying in Australia. How could that possibly happen? Ask him.

15. On record, we actually have 200 registered citizens in Australia, however on camp day, less than 200 turned up, due to reasons only they will know. I think it was 190 something…

16. Do you know that there’s so much work to be done for Australia that until the very last night before loading onto the lorry for Camporama, the guys were still in Fellowship Hall completing every assignment. Even then, once arrived at campsite, the task continued… and if we were allowed to stay at the campsite, the work will never end.

17. Ahhh… the funny yet entertaining Australia rugby game which all of us enjoyed. Do you know, they thought of the game and rules few minutes before the actual game? And all the wonderful rugby players came back from camp slightly darker…ok..ok.. very dark… and painful.

18. Cmdr. David Suppramaniam at first wanted to build a banana boat for the cardboard regatta game, whereby the boat gets peeled off layer by layer so that we will still be safe. Should have use this idea, right?

19. Oh, if I have given you the impression that most work done in Fellowship hall. Think again. At the end, we had about 3 pick-up points, Cmdr. Molly’s house, Cmdr. Penny’s house and Cmdr. Andrew Lee’s house before actually starting loading in fellowship hall.

20. We didn’t plan it, but it happened. We actually wanted to put up our Archway after every department has been set up. There are so many things to do that we ended up only putting up the archway way past midnight, much to the disappointment of some Indian dudes in their bicycle doing their rounds.

Camporama 2009 was an awesome event. I learnt a lot and enjoyed myself during these 4 days . It was a great experience for me and it gave me good memories. The theme for this year's camp was POSITIONED 2 SERVE. Truly, the camp made a change in me and I've been blessed by God during the night rallies. The praise and worship was really awesome. During worship service, I feltGod's presence upon me.

The first night, was city night. Those who were involved in the city night did a very great job. I really enjoyed the night . Thank God that the city night went successfully. During the duration of camp, I was also involved in the regatta competition. We were all dressed up as Australian convicts. Before the competition started, I felt quite nervous and I prayed to God that we will do our best as a team so the regatta will be carried out smoothly.

Eventhough we did not win the competition, but I was truly previleged that Commander David , had chosen me to be a part of the competition. All in all the camp was not only fun, but it was superbly wonderful. Hope to see u guys in the year 2013. It truly was really a great experience!!

We didn't plan that way OK.... it's was just that the master of the archway can't make it daytime, so no choice loh wait for him till nite only put up since he's the only one who know how to erect the archway. Yes we all had a good laugh but know this; how many of us truly appreciate what our mums have done for each and everyone of us? We always rant when they nag or complain or punish us, but they do all that because they care about us and what us to learn.

In the video whatever that has been sung is not made up at all but all true and we should obey our mums just like in the Bible. What did the 5th Commandment say? Children obey your parents. Do that, make your mum proud and be Blessed.

We all went nutty last Sunday.... with Cook-A-Rama 2009! Well done to Discovery Girls for winning the 1st prize, followed by Adventure Rangers Bouncy Bah Kut Teh and Rajaaaa Rojak! All the patrols from Ranger KIDS to Expedition did their very best to come out with their unique "Nutty Dish". The pictures below tells it all.... believe me... the taste is as good as the pics.... for some laaa....hehehe. God bless the judges stomach as well-Ps Betty Teh, Ps Roy and Ps Eileen. The Adventure Rangers had gone for an expedition into the forest reserved of FRIM to complete their Forrestry Merit and then to the breeding grounds of fireflies one fine Saturday. So lets take a look at what happened throughout the day.

Australia… the land down under! Selangor # 1 has officially appointed Nic-O-Bama our City Mayor for Australia on the 29th March 2009 with a spectacular ceremony. The swearing in ceremony was held grandly in front of all the citizen of Australia. With the Australian national anthem playing, the new cabinet marches in with style and smartness. Our Mr President gave a very strong & inspiring speech that gave the citizen of Australia hope that YES...WE CAN! And we will.... have fun in Camporama 2009!

There's certainly a price to pay to be the best...

2 weeks back, Cmdr. Joseph Gan was crowned the undisputed Champion of Selangor #1 bowling tournament amongst the leaders of Selangor #1 and now he's out of action for at least 6 months. Yes, he is injured. The bowling report will follow soon. Now for the berita terkini...

This is a picture of Cmdr. Joseph Gan resting at home with his right leg bandaged. Don't worry, he's fine now. He broke his minor right leg bone (i think it's called fibula bone) and fractured his ankle in a innocent, friendly game of futsal. Innocent? Friendly? Yes, innocent and friendly. I have heard a lot of version on how he got injured. Some said he kicked the goal post. Some say he replaced Larry Chew in playing keeper and got injured. Some said he was tackled. Well, like i said, there many version but only one is the truth. His version.

He was enjoying his game of futsal and running to chase a loose ball from one end of the futsal court to the other. His left leg was faster than his right when he slide to take the ball and he fell awkwardly on his right leg. It didn't look that serious at first but he couldn't continue and the guys took him to the hospital to scan the extent of his injury.

That is when they discovered that he has broken his right fibula bone. See scan picture below. You will notice a gap on the thinner right bone (that is our fibula bone) and that is where it cracked.A total of 8 screws has to be inserted to re-attached the bones together and will be left to heal for 6 weeks before it is taken out again. Yes, Cmdr. Joseph Gan will have to go through another operation to remove all the screws. As of now he has been renamed 'ROBOGAN' and he can predict when it is going to rain. :)

Noticed the last and longest screw at the very end on the above picture. Yes, you are not alone. I felt a little shiver when i first discover the lenght of the screws as well.

On a brighter note, you will be happier with this last picture. All the photos were taken in Joseph's house while he was watching the repeat of this morning's Liverpool's Champions League game against Real Madrid. Liverpool triumphed and Joseph was a happy man. I think he will recover much faster if Liverpool go all the way to the final of Champion's League.

He said he'll start playing futsal again if Liverpool can challenge Manchester United for the EPL title :)

You'll never walk alone, Cmdr. Joseph Gan. We're always with you and praying for your quick and complete recovery. Rest well and come back stronger.

Safety first... Wear rear seat belt..

A seat belt, sometimes called a safety belt, is a safety harness designed to secure the occupant of a vehicle against harmful movement that may result from a collision or a sudden stop. As part of an overall occupant restraint system, seat belts are intended to reduce injuries by stopping the wearer from hitting hard interior elements of the vehicle or other passengers (the so-called second impact) and by preventing the passenger from being thrown from the vehicle.

It has been stated that in crashes, unbelted rear passengers increase nearly fivefold the risk of death for belted front passengers.

Started January 1st 2009, the first 3 rear paseengers would have to wear safety belts for cars registered after 1995.

This is indeed good news.

Studies have shown that many deaths of the front passengers who buckled up properly were caused by rear passengers being thrown forward like a projectile in a crash. The force of a person travelling at 60km/hour would be 40 times the body weight. If there is any impact, the force exerted would kill the Back passenger as well the the Front passenger directly in front, mostly by fracturing the cervical spines (neck spines). ( it is also for this reason that it is best to keep loose things like umbrellas and books in the boot instead of the shelf in front of the back windsrceen.)

So, it is for the good of the rear passengers as well as the front passengers for the rear passengers to buckle up.

Here’s another good reason. It prevents you from falling when you are sleeping as well. So you can sleep in style and sleep in peace, knowing that you have buckled up.

So buckled up all Royal Rangers.

Hahha.. Not quite… We’re just after Chinese New Year but since the last post was about Christmas, I thought why not post another about Christmas before we proceed to a more recent activities. Allow this Tau Keh to finish all his outstanding and outdated posting before we move on. I know some of you (faithful readers) are eager to know and view some photo’s that was taken without permission. And mind you, I am NOT talking about any Exco members here.

Ahhh… CELL GROUP CHRISTMAS PARTY 2008…

I personally think Christmas is the best time of the year, well at least for me. You see, Christmas is all about giving. Some of you may argue that Chinese New Year is also about giving…giving angpow which we would love to receive more. Well, if you have grown up or are growing up (something which you cannot stop yourself from doing), you will soon find yourself in my category which will agree that Christmas is the best time of the year. Giving angpow hurts the giver. However, if you are in the receiving end, there is also a time limit and if you wish to extend the time limit to the very max, you will find that you receive more than just an angpow. It comes with an unintentional (so they say) humorous remark. Those who understand me, say aye in the chatbox.

Christmas, however is different. You receive gifts no matter what and which category you are in. Sometimes, you receive more than you bargain for…only sometimes. But the fact remains; Christmas is more about giving than receiving. God the Father, gave His one and only Son; JESUS. JESUS, gave His one and only life. What are we giving? DIY Christmas & Home Coming...

That’s right. The new season of Selangor ONE started with a D.I.Y. No, not D.I.S.C but D.I.Y. Yes, Do It Yourself method. I believe for far too long we have always been spoon-fed, either by our parents, teachers or our leaders. The bible wrote that when we are a child, we think like a child and eat like a child. But when we have grown up, we have to think like adult and eat MEAT like adult. A child’s portion of food cannot satisfy an adult nor will a child’s level of thinking solve adult problems. We have to grow up and learn to do things ourselves. That’s right, D.I.Y.

The Council and the Group Commanders all decided on the D.I.Y plus a few of games here and there and wala… what a home coming & Christmas celebration, it has turn out to be. Allow me to elaborate further…

The day started with everyone sitting together to hear the days message from our beloved Outpost Chaplain Ps. Mike Kuna. Ps. Mike added some animation and rope trick to his preaching to attract the attention of rangers from all ages. Then, the fiesta begins…

Each ranger has to complete a certain obstacles and games before they can proceed to claim their reward in terms of food. However, in claiming their reward, we meant to say that they actually have to cook them all by themselves… under adult supervision, of course.

We had toast bread with egg station; make your own sandwich station (with choice of egg or tuna); baked your own bread station; and everyone’s favourite, the chocolate fruit factory. The chocolate fruit factory managed by Adventure leaders was a sensational hit with rangers lining up to have a taste of melted chocolate on their favourite choice of fruits. Yummy…

What a start to a new and exciting season ahead…

Hmm…maybe someone should start a D.I.Y food stall. Do everything yourself, put the ingredient (choose what you want, how much you want), cook yourself (how long you want, raw/medium/cooked/ burnt) and then serve yourself. If you don’t like, you have only yourself to blame. Hahha… What’s the catch for the stall owner, then? They pay the same market price. Hehe..

Two down... Selangor has the highest hits...

Yes, that's right. Our beloved Selangor state has the highest number of dengue infection caused by aedes and some of us don't even realise the danger, until it strucked one of us or in this case two of us down. For your information, Lt. Cmdr. Bawanie Rachel and her brother Elijah has been admitted to Pantai Hospital in Klang due to dengue.

Cmdr. Bawanie Rachel has been in the hospital for the past 1 week and her brother, Ranger Elijah has just been admitted last Sunday (15th February 2009). They both stayed one end from the other in the hospital. Cmdr. Bawanie Rachel is recovering fine and seems to be enjoying her stay. However, Ranger Elijah's white blood count is irregular. Please remember to pray for them both and also for covering for all in the state of Selangor.

In our combat against aedes, we have decided to educate our reader on this deadly enemy and measures we can take to prevent them from spreading.

Dengue fever is an acute viral disease caused by the Flavivirus of the family Flaviviridae. The term “dengue” is a Spanish attempt at the Swahili phrase “Ki denga pepo” meaning “cramp-like seizure” caused by an evil spirit.

It’s a disease of tropical and subtropical regions that occurs epidemically, very much similar to chikungunya.

This disease is also called “breakbone” fever because it sometimes causes severe joint & muscle pain that feels like bones are breaking, hence the name.

The illness is usually self-limiting and can last up to 10 days, but complete recovery can take as long as a month.

Dengue fever is noncontagious i.e., not an airborne infection (an infected person cannot spread the infection to other persons but can be a source of dengue virus for mosquitoes for about 6 days from the start of symptoms).

Dengue virus is transmitted to humans through mosquito bites, a specific species of mosquito usually Aedes aegypti (but frequently Aedes albopictus) which bites during morning hours. The mosquito transmits disease by biting an infected person and then biting someone else, similar to the spread of chikungunya.

The incubation period (i.e., period from infection till the manifestation of symptoms) is 4 to 6 days, but may vary with a range of 3 to 14 days.

This disease is a vector borne infection i.e., mosquito is the vector (carrier) of the virus believed to cause this fever and the vector is common both in dengue and chikungunya

Symptoms of typical (classic) dengue usually start with fever within 5 to 6 days after someone is bitten by an infected mosquito. Symptoms are more or less similar to that of chikungunya and include:

1)High-grade fever.

2)Severe headache.

3)Severe joint and muscle pain.

4)Nausea and vomiting.

5)Skin rash - The rash may appear over most of the body 3 to 4 days after fever.

6)Bleeding from the nose, gums or under the skin, causing purplish bruises.

If you stay in Selangor and are having any of the above symptoms, please get yourself checked up at the nearest clinic or hospital.

Prevention is basically by:

1)Avoiding mosquito bites (by using mosquito repellents containing DEET, picaridin (KBR3023) or oil of lemon eucalyptus)

2)Eliminating pockets of stagnant water that serve as mosquito breeding sites at home, workplaces and their vicinity,

3)Not storing water in open containers. Covering all water containers with lids.

4)Preventing mosquito entry by keeping doors closed and windows screened.

5)Wearing protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks and shoes when outdoors.

6)Using mosquito nets at home.

7)Scrubbing and cleaning margins of containers used for water (to dislodge the eggs of Aedes aegypti)

8)Covering overhead tank to prevent access to mosquitoes.

9)Aedes mosquitoes usually bite during the day; therefore, special precautions should be taken during early morning hours before day break and in the late afternoon before dark.

10)There is no commercially available dengue vaccine (for dengue Flavivirus).

Let us all take effort to do our part and ensure a clean and safe environment for all Rangers.

Ok… this goes way back… way back to last year. We had our ANNUAL LEADERS RETREAT and it was more amusing, aside from the giving report then any other…

1) Want to see how the leaders chill out after giving their tense report card?

2) Want to see how your leaders go through obstacle course and that also, they have to add some twist to the rule to make it more interesting? You will notice a blindfolded and one legged leader but you will never guess that there’s another leader who cannot speak throughout the course.

3) Want to see how the older… elder… or should I say, more experienced leaders’ play 1, 2, juice?

4) Want to see how Cmdr. Sherene Cheong… I meant Sherene Lee / Bawanie Rachel and May Lai tried the jumping candid camera shots? You will see how Cmdr. May Lai disappears half way after losing to the force of gravity.

5) Want to see Cmdr. Sherene Lee’s attempt to slide down the slide and into the pool? Did she fall?

6) Want to see the leaders go through the tarzan rope? Yes, even our beloved Chairman Cmdr. Herbert Ong? Cmdr. Yogaraj did one better, by carrying another person.

7) Want to know how Cmdr. Sherene Lee and Bawanie Rachel lend a hand to help the environment? Hug a tree… any tree!

8) Want to see Cmdr. Sherene Lee sad (kena lock-up) face?

9) Want to see how our ladies chill out at the pool side?

10) Want to see how all our leaders overcome the fear of height by climbing up and then hugging the pole?

If your answer is yes to any of the above question, scroll down a little and watch the slide one by one. You will be able to see what you want to see shortly.

All in all, you will notice one thing… throughout the courses; our leaders were supporting each other, either by holding their hands, carrying each other, becoming the stepping stool, holding their legs, waist… you name it… and they were supporting each other throughout the course. Just look that those pictures and you will see it for yourself. Leaders helping leaders. That’s what it is all about. That’s how they enjoyed the course. That’s how they complete the course. They were victorious because of each other.

A leaders’ life every Sunday is somewhat liken to the above course. Be it for a councilman or group cmdr. or lt. cmdr., we all need each other’s support to go through the day… to enjoy the day. You can be that hand whose only duty is to push another leader (through the tarzan rope) to the other side or you can the one that carries (a heavier load than Cmdr. Bawanie Rachel) on Sunday, or even if you do not have any duties at all on that Sunday, your presence makes all the difference.

That’s right, leaders. Your presence meant a whole lot to every leaders, every rangers and even to Our Master Ranger. I leave you with this question…

The Reds are on the verge of usurping Manchester United as the fans' favourites.
It is not just on the pitch that Liverpool are closing the gap on Manchester United: the English Premier League leaders are also winning the battle for new fans around the world.
The biggest survey of EPL fans across the globe has revealed Liverpool are on the verge of toppling United from their perch as the best-supported club in the world's favourite league.
The survey, organised by the EPL's principal sponsors, Barclays, polled 32,000 fans in 185 countries and territories. United remain the most popular club but only by the tiniest of margins, with both teams attracting the backing of 26 per cent of the supporters who took part in the voluntary survey.
For Liverpool, that represents a significant advance on the 18 per cent figure they registered in a similar but smaller survey three years ago. The popularity of Liverpool's biggest stars also suggests United's status as the most valuable brand in English football is under siege.
Cristiano Ronaldo might have been a near unanimous choice for this year's Ballon d'Or after inspiring his club to a Premier League and Champions League double, but he trails Liverpool's Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard in terms of popularity among fans.
As one of the Premier League's first truly top-class imports, Marcel Desailly - who spent six years at Chelsea after arriving as a World Cup winner in 1998 - is in the perfect position to assess the league's growth in the last decade. The former France defender acknowledges Liverpool's support is on the rise, but he believes Rafa Benitez's team must win the league to make their increased popularity stick in the long term.

Nigel Lim Ch’ng Jie becomes the youngest member to join the club at the tender age of just a day after he was born. His father ensures that Nigel recognizes which club he is supporting by donning him with a true RED Liverpool towel the very next day after his introduction to the world. The KOP rejoices at the addition as we race to become the most popular club in the world beating the current rival Manchester United.

Yes, that’s right. You hear it here first. Why not open a Ramly Burger stall? You can make additional side income and everyone is your target market… This is a sure win. What? You don’t look like a ‘Mr. Ramly’… well, what about these guys? They succeeded. If you don’t try, you will never know.

You’re thinking that it is difficult to set up a stall right? Ok, allow us to run through with you… Firstly you need to print out a price tag for your burgers. You can have a fancy colourful price list or just a plain paper will do.

But remember; don’t put up the price too high. Everyone is financially tight too. Listen to the Government and help out where can, bring the price down a little.

That’s right. Next you need to hire some coolly. Yes, these coolly are the cool people that will help you cut breads, apply butter on bread, fold papers, fry sausages and etc at a very cool price. They’ll do it for free burger.

Next, add some variety to the menu. Yes, it is more difficult nowadays if you are only selling burger. Ramly has to diversify to sausages, hotdogs, French fries, Roti John, water and etc. Hey, if taxi driver can sell these, why ramly cannot?

The next part is going to the main ingredient. How to make a good tasty Ramly burger and hotdog? It is actually not that difficult. Firstly, cook the burger meat and sausages.

While the meat is frying, prepare the bread with ready sliced cabbages and mustard. The key is to ensure each squeeze is proportionate with the toppings. There must be enough of everything but not too much so something. As the buyer bite the burger or hotdog, he or she must be able to taste all ingredient at once without missing anything.

Next, place the meat properly aligned at the centre core of the burger bread or hotdog. The meat must be aligned centre to ensure maximum control while handling the burger and everything is taken into the bite.

If so you feel that you did not put enough ingredients, do not be afraid. You can add additional toppings after you have placed the meat. But remember the rule that says enough of everything but not too much of something.

The writer wishes to thank all who has participated in the fundraising for the Thailand Mission Trip. The selling of pens, perfumes, burger, charity futsal competition and personal contribution has been overwhelming. All in all, we managed to collect approximately RM 6,000.00 from the fundraising events.

The mission team has left to Chiang Rai on 3rd December and we are expecting them to arrive tonight. We have heard of so many good testimonies even before they reach the destination and God has His ways in saving the best for last. Their final night rally, which attracted almost 350 youths, brought fame to a few missionaries and more importantly, added souls to the Kingdom of God. I leave them to share with you all their life changing stories.

Ok, I have a confession to make… I’ve been lazy… Yup, the holidays have its good and bad. Good as it allows us to rest after a long… months of study/work (you know, the brain needs time off) and bad as it makes us lazy. Come on, can you really argue about holidays? Some say it’s too few and some say it’s too many. Well I say, stop debating and let’s make the most with what we have. I guess the extreme of anything is not good. How many of you would agree with me?

Ok… fine, I’m just finding excuses for the very long delay in the update. Yup, just plain busy. Not lazy, but busy. Hehe…

Well, the anniversary has come and gone and I’ve better update you guys before the 28th Anniversary comes. Well, here’s the happening stuff about the Royal Rangers Selangor ONE 27th Anniversary…

The Anniversary was held in September 2008, the rangers were happy to receive their merit, the leaders were happier that it was the last event to a well deserved break... Yes, we won’t be having Royal Rangers meeting for October and November since the rangers will be facing some major and some final exams. Well, one thing’s for sure, we will all missed the gathering and will anxiously await the HOME-COMING in December.

Allow me to start the ball rolling…

Since it was Olympic year, we had an opening ceremony symbolic to the lighting of the flame. Ours were the flame of Royal Rangers. Four different rangers from 4 different age group, each holding a candle and with the Rangers KIDS candle lit. They passed on the flame to each other and finally lighting up the candle on the stage. From Rangers KIDS to Discover Rangers to Adventure Rangers and to Expedition Rangers, it shows progression, growth, dependency and responsibility. Just like the 4 gold points in the Royal Rangers Emblem, a ranger grows mentally, physically, socially and spiritually.

Then we continue with the Chairman’s speech from the Honorable Cmdr. Herbert Ong.

We also thank God for the parents that were present during the anniversary. Their unrelentless effort and patience in chauffeuring their children to church every Sunday and also to every other activity finally paid off as they see some medals and achievement awarded to their children. So you see, (mom & dad & grandpa & ma, uncle and aunts), we could be having an activity at a football field but we are still learning something. And you rangers, you better be a good boy & girl, listen to your parents and get some more awards for this years outing permission. Heard there’s a BIG NATIONAL CAMP-O-RAMA coming up in June’ 2009. Are you excited already?

The Expedition team JADS led the congregation to a wonderful old and yet familiar song that have everyone jiggling and laughing while singing and doing actions.

This action familiar enough? Oh PIZZA HUT… And here we thought the Rangers KIDS would be more excited about this song. I guess the BIG BOYS & GIRLS are more into the song than anyone else. Check out Ranger David Poh doing it with his eyes closed… That’s skill, brother. Talk about missed childhood… Somebody should take a photo of the councilmen in action. Maybe they are even more excited about it… hehe…
Up next are various outpost presentations. We start with Discovery Girls to the Boys, to the Adventure Rangers and finally Expedition Rangers.

The Discovery Rangers Boys presented the drama entitled “THE CHAMPION!” featuring a boxing match between JESUS and the devil. We all know who the eventual winner of the match is. Even when the road ahead is tough, coupled with storms and hurricanes, The BIBLE say that we are all CHAMPIONS in Jesus. Because of what Jesus has done, we are declared “THE WINNER!” So hold your head up high and start walking and talking like a Champion. Some of the leaders have lived long enough to see 4 generations acting in this drama. And no matter how many times we’ve seen it, it still doesn’t bore us. I guess we all just like to see the devil get some beatings, eh?

The Adventure Rangers did a musical like High School but different. It is a musical mime with some cool dance moves and yup, a couple of blindfolds. That’s right, try dancing with a blindfold. Believe me, it is not easy. You won’t know who hit you while dancing. Hehe…

The Expedition Rangers did a RANGERS NEWS Network advertisement. Yup, that’s the same talented guy that did the pizza hut song with his eyes closed. Now he’s attempting to be a newscaster. What can we say, the guy’s talented and we all love him, don’t we? Plus a few more girls from other outpost but we’ll just leave it at there.

It’s the Council of Achievement time and due to space I can only pick some cute, adorable rangers receiving their merits here. If you want to spot your face, just look at the slide a little while longer. I’m pretty sure our faithful cameraman took everyone’s picture. Unless of course, if you were not present. But if you did come, I’m 100% sure your picture is inside. Our cameraman was clicking non stop from the beginning to the end.

Aaahhhh… The 26th Selangor ONE anniversary cake! Isn’t it beautiful? Can you still remember how it tastes like? The icing, the chocolate, the record setting time it takes for the cake to just disappear into thin air after cutting. Some one, some poor soul, some commanders will end up not knowing what the cake taste is like? I mean it’s such a big cake and well, we do have a big crowd but… come on, how many slice did you take? Can someone tell me how does it taste?

Oh yeah, did I mentioned Cmdr. William also broke another record? Yup, he beat our two GMA holders to putting off the fire on the candle of the cake first before them. And he did it with style and distance. Check this out? Hat’s off to all our leaders and rangers for a wonderful year.

Christmas is around the corner. Let’s start spreading the JOY of Christmas. Get ready; we will be having a Home Coming Christmas Campfire on 20th December 2008. It’s a Saturday and it is open to all rangers. More details will be posted up soon.

It was a hero’s welcome for the National Training Camp graduates as they step out of the van and into the church compound. Both Councilmen and Group Commanders were there to welcome the heroes back home after a successful completion in the National Training Camp.

National Training Camp or what some leaders called it National Torture Camp is designed to give leaders professional training in camping and leadership, plus the opportunity of outstanding fellowship with fellow leaders from other outpost and adventure in the outdoors.
A total of 60+ trainees put their hands and head together as they toil the sungai congkak ground, sleep on the hard surface, rush to cook own meal (cooked or raw), avoid being bitten by leeches (many fail… the leeches had a feast), quickly copy the training notes, plan their patrol songs and yell, try to work together and etc…

R2Y cell has a humble beginning. From two to four people (host and wife included) gathering every week, we have grown to 15-20 people coming together and we’re still growing… From the apartment in Prima Bayu to a double storey house in Bandar Botanic, R2Y cell is a testament of God’s goodness and grace in our lives. It’s shows that if we are humble and faithful with the little that we have, God will increase and gives us more, so long as we recognize to give Him back the glory because He deserves all glory, power and praise.

Since we are here, let us introduce our cell to you. You think you know us? Well, here’s a list of THINGS you didn’t know about our cell…

1)When it comes to drinks, it is a split between sprite and coke. And you thought everyone likes coke eh? I guess it’s no longer the world’s favourite.

2)We like Spiderman more than Batman. I guess this is because of Batman’s rough voice… Although he looks tougher and stronger (with his mean machine – bat mobile and all), the voice… they have got to do something with the voice. If not, we will choose spandex over muscle… Hollywood directors, please take note.

3)That’s right, it is a dog eats dogs world out there and we loooooooove dogs, more than cat. No offence to cat lover but just like the saying goes; a dog is man’s best friend. (psst – I think cat’s poo is smellier [is there such word?] than dog’s poo… my opinion la..)

4)We love Nasi Lemak and Roti Chanai. Of course la, we are MALAYSIAN wei and very proud to be one. Cmdr. Yang, you miss nasi lemak and roti chanai or not? You come back, we take you to IV restaurant in Pandamaran – the best roti chanai in Klang, so far.

5)Although they may have lost in Singapore F1, we still love FERRARI.

6)Of course la, if we love FERRARI, we will definitely love SHELL. They go together ma… Just like Cornelius Raj and Andrew Robert, Jonathan Wong and Ryan Teo, Don Desmond and…. Er, Don Desmond goes together with anybody.

7)Yes, we are still in awe with the way Brazil plays football. We love Brazil football team. Some of us love the players while some of us love the way they play. Get it?

R2Y cell meets every Friday (except the last Friday of the month) in Cmdr. Kwang Yew’s house at 8:00pm. Do feel free to join us for a time of worship, prayer and fellowship. This Friday (3rd October 2008) we are touching Hebrews TWELVE. Read your bible first…

BOWL-A-RAMA 2008

What started out as a friendly bowling game, intensify to a bowling league and became a battle to determine the champion of Selangor ONE amateur bowling 2008. And it all just happened in a twinkling of an eye. Who would have guess, a game of rolling a ball towards 10 pins would catch on and the fever, continue till this very day?

The league went to its final round (after a total of 10 games) with Cmdr. Francis Raj, Cmdr. Su Ling and Cmdr. Pamela Soo eliminated from the league. They played their best but at the end, only the top 8 of man’s league and top 2 of women’s league qualify for the final round. (Cmdr. Pamela was so devastated, she left the country…. Yes, to Singapore and got the job of her dreams)

Back to the final round, Cmdr. William See, Cmdr. Hon Chong, Cmdr. Mike Dharmo and Kelvin Tea roll off the first semi-final game with only the winner of the group going through the second semi-final. Kelvin Tea couldn’t make it out of work commitment and Cmdr. William, Cmdr. Hon Chong and Cmdr. Mike was left fighting it out. At the end of the game, Cmdr. William See makes it through scoring 158 points, Cmdr. Hon Chong 130 points and Cmdr. Mike Dharmo 108 points.

The second semi-final now sees Cmdr. Larry Chew, Cmdr. Joseph Gan, Cmdr. Kwang Yew and Cmdr. William See. Cmdr. Joseph Gan and Cmdr. Larry Chew was the favourite as they have been fighting neck to neck all through out the league game. However, Cmdr William see with the score of 158 points could pose some threat to them. It was an intense game but Cmdr. Joseph Gan managed to pull away from the very first frame while the rest falter. Cmdr. Joseph Gan scored 149 points, Cmdr. William See and Cmdr. Kwang Yew managed only 115 points and Cmdr. Larry 110 points.

The final game will be between Cmdr. Kenny Chew and Cmdr. Joseph Gan. While the guys took a break before the final game, Cmdr. May Lai and Celina roll off the final game for the ladies. And in the end, Celina matched Cmdr. May Lai every way and managed to nick the title from her with 139 points over 126 points.

Back to the men’s final, it proves to be the final of the final. Cmdr. Joseph Gan and Cmdr. Kenny Chew strike out each other all the way. Neck to neck wasn’t even close, it was skin to skin, strikes after strikes, and spares after spares… They were just waiting for each other to falter. Cmdr. Joseph Gan managed to score 204-132 while Cmdr. Kenny Chew scored 177-143. It was Cmdr. Joseph Gan’s title in the end.

Grace Advancement Camp 2008... finally!

Yes, a much overdued report and photos on the GRACE Advancement camp held in June 5th to 7th, 2008. This camp was attended by more than 80 rangers from Selangor ONE, Grace Klang with one objective... to complete as much advancement merits as possible... and still have fun.

One look at the camp schedule and you will noticed the many times 'Advancement Class' appeared in it. A total of 12 hours of Advancement class in the span of 3 days 2 nights in Kem ALIM, Jugra, Banting. Among the merits completed are Rock Climbing Merit, Camping Merit, Compass Merit, Camp Cooking Merit, Bible Merit.. etc

BOWL-A-RAMA 2008

Finally... the bowling league has reached its final round. After a span of almost 3 months, after 5 rounds of intense games and many, many practises, some long throws, short throws, durian drop throws, silent roll and so on, finally... we have completed the bowl-a-rama 2008 league.

Remember, only the top 8 male bowlers of the league will qualify for the step-ladder final and top 2 female bowlers will roll off to see who is the female champion. The 5th to 8th spot will roll off 1 game each. The winner will then roll off 1 game each with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spot bowler. This winner will then take on the league leader rolling off 2 games each to determine this year's bowl-a-rama champion.

The Adventures of Gua Tempurung 08

Gua Tempurung, Perak – is one of the most majestic white marble and limestone towers in Malaysia. Concealed within the limestone is an intricate system of caves of various dimensions, shapes and sizes. These caves are actually a breathtaking gallery of stalagmites and stalactites and other amazing rock formations. The journey inside runs from east to west, nearly 2 km in length. It is an out of the world experience for those who have never been to Gua Tempurung.

The Adventure Rangers of Grace Klang, Selangor ONE made sure none of their rangers fall under the category of “Sua Ku” and “Katak di bawah Tempurung” as they made their mark in the local low budget.. er no budget remake of Indiana Bones, the adventures of Gua Tempurung.

The Journey started on 24 of May, where the adventure rangers have been longing for all this while, to find the “The Lost Treasure of Gopeng”. The rangers were only given a map n the rest was history…no pictures were taken during the trip because it was a high profile mission. The journey took about 2 ½ hours due 2 several pit stops because firstly “Cmdr can I stop ar need to go 2 toilet” just as we leave the 1st stop “Cmdr can stop the next 1, this rest place got nothing 2 buy 2 eat la” and then came next came the van which it also need a drink, so stop again 2 fill diesel to maintain Korean made van probably no DVVT technology...

While one van was quiet, the other noise all the way… just look at them and the excitement of just sitting in the van.

Anyway once we reach to our destination the atmosphere change from a joyful period 2 a serious environment in which every1 was reminded by Senior Guide “we must always stick as a team, if there is earthquake then only we run…”

We had a quick lunch, to fill up our stomach just in case, if anyone of us got lost, we won’t be hungry.

Then, we started our journey inside the cave and it was dark. Thank God for torch lights and the ones around the head are most advisable as it frees you hands to hold on to your friends while walking through the tunnels.

While walking inside, we had an amazing discovery. We discovered that cavemen has already built steel staircase inside the cave. Amazing eh? However, just the like movie, an adventure that is that simple, surely got trap wan, right? So we decide to skipped the stairs and walk in water, following the small river path that we can hear and see…

Don’t worry, guys, Indie Christopher is right at the back, watching over us…

After a long walk, we saw a place where we can rest and what a relief it was.

Then we made another discovery. Cave writing! We believe the cavemen were trying to pass some message to us, probably their identity as we scout and analyze each character, curves to unlock the key to the treasure.

And then, suddenly… We saw…

Yes, rangers. Cmdr. Desmund was part of the cave men clan. He made his name carving very nice and I think he was a bit in a hurry, as he spelled his name wrongly. He even almost left his numbers there. Hehhe…

Those who fail to unlock the code will have to slide through a very steep slope to get to the other side. How steep? Let’s just say that you will find yourself standing up while sliding down… that’s right? As you slide down, you will stand up. Confused already? Hahha… Not easy to get to the treasure wei…

Then for the most difficult challenge, a tiny hole for you to go through… Pastor Mike was given the honor of being the first to go through so that the rest will have confident that they can go through as well. If Pastor Mike can go through, I also can go through challenge.

After going through all the challenges, finally it was a run to the end… Who will finish first? As we go through the longest walk of the cave towards the end, passing by the wind tunnel as well. Yes, there’s this place (a tunnel) whereby it is so windy out of a sudden as you walk pass and upon approaching the end, no wind at all. Amazing cavemen invention?

Finally we managed to find the exit and although, we didn’t discover any treasures, we discovered many cavemen invention. Sole of the shoes, some shoes were found lying inside the cave. The cave even had ‘tong sampah’. That just proves that even cavemen are concerned about the environment. What more us?

Yes, we did it. We conquered Gua Tempurung.

And it’s time to change to cleaner attire, as we dry ourselves up… and not forgetting our T.shirt as well as our socks.

Yes, yes, while others jam packed the toilet, some show off their muscle…

and yes, i have to add... the journey back was the longest and noisiest =)

Selangor ONE Leaders Retreat 2008

What Royal Rangers meant to you? How much impact does it have in your life? These were the very questions asked to all leaders that has just attended the recent Leaders Retreat. Their answers below :-

The Royal Rangers Ministry in Grace Klang has seen rangers growing up as straight arrows to young adults, to husbands and wives, to great parents with children of their own now in the ministry. The impact it has on our lives is immeasurable. We can only thank the late Rev. Johnnie Barnes for listening to the voice of God, to birth this life changing and life saving Royal Rangers Ministry.

However, the work is not done yet. The finish line not crossed. We have still a long way to go as we press on and continue the work He has started in the Royal Rangers Ministry.

FAITHFULNESS - Oxford dictionary describes the word as a) being loyal to subject/something over a long period of time b) able to be trusted i.e. a faithful worker c) true to the fact; accurate i.e. a faithful copy

This is what i've gathered from the recent leaders retreat. Admist the fun, games and fellowship, the word "faithfulness" keeps coming to mind. The Royal Rangers Ministry in Grace Klang celebrated its Silver Jubilee Celebration (25th Anniversary) last year and it was a milestone to remember. God has indeed been faithful to us and the Royal Rangers ministry, no one can argue with that. But, have we been faithful to the calling? Have we been faithful to the ministry? Most importantly, have we been faifhful to God?

The retreat was a breath of fresh air to most leaders. A much needed break and holiday from their hectic weekend actitivies and daily life, not that any of the leaders are complaining =) And what better place than to have fresh air than the highlands, genting highlands. The retreat was held in Peacehaven campsite, genting highlands. A campsite owned by Full Gospel Assembly church.

We checked in, settled down and had our first meal at the campsite. After that, we had our informal discussion. This is where the above quotes were taken from. Each leaders were given the opportunity to share about their thoughts on Royal Rangers.

Then, we were treated to a movie, entitled 'Facing the Giants'. The movie is about a football coach who is facing difficulty in his career as well as his family life. And when things started going from bad to worse, he had no one else to turn to but God. He cried out to God and God listens. Slowly but surely, things began to turn around for the better. And it got even bigger when they recognises that in everything whether good or bad, God deserves all the glory. A typical Christian movie eh? Well, yes, if we are contended living an average life with average resources when God promises abundance. A typical christian life? We need to learn to seek HIM first, the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and believe that all these things will added unto us. First option = God.

The next morning, we had a quick breakfast before having our chapel service with Pastor Mike. Ps. Mike taught us on how all things work together for good to those who believe and are called according to His purposes.

We even prayed for the May babies. Yea, you missed it, Su Ling. Anyone else, May babies?

Then, come the activities. This is probably one of the side of the leaders you, rangers have never seen. In most camps, the leaders will be busy organising, planning and ensuring everything is in order. If you give them the opportunity to participate, the likes of Sidek brothers, Foo Kok Keong and some famous ping pong star started appearing. Just look at the photos, you'll see "mutu, style dan keunggulan" =)

That night, the leaders were given a test. Yes, a test. Aren't you glad, rangers, that your commanders had to do test as well? hahha... You can practically see the tension and stress on each leader's faces as they tried their best in the test... and not copying... hehe...

In the end, it was a good test of identifying different characters and spiritual giftings.

The next morning was our last day of the retreat. We had our breakfast, before gathering once again pray for the Royal Rangers Ministry in our church and abroad. What started for half an hour, went on to 2 hours and probably more, if not for the time. God was indeed present, as He ministered and touched the leaders one by one. We should have more fellowship and prayer gathering like these, and we shouldn't wait for the next retreat to come.

It was indeed an awesome and refreshing retreat for us, leaders.
